How To Fix Window 10 Custom Lock Screen Picture And Slideshow Not Working Issue?

UPDATE: This problem has been resolved in latest Windows 10 Version 1511. For sake of security, I’ve turned on secure logon feature again :)

Not only the custom lock screen background photo and slideshow do not appear as per Personalization setting, none of the chosen Windows Store app shows any notification on lock screen too.

It works right after fresh installing Windows 10. I only realize the photo slideshow not working after few customizations as well as security hardening. So, it took me some time to figure out what has gone wrong.

Guess what! Enforce CTRL+ALT+DEL to logon Windows 10 is the culprit!

Hence, immediate solution is to disable secure logon (do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL to trigger Winlogon process), if you desperately want to show off stunning holiday photos or peek at modern app notification (like detail weather status) on Windows 10 lock screen:

Disable CTRL+ALT+Delete from User Account dialog box

1. Open Command Prompt window or press Windows button and type netplwiz to open User Account dialog box.

2. Go to Advanced tab and untick “Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete” option.
If this option is greyed out (disabled) but the checkbox is ticked, then go to disable it via Local Group Policy Editor.

1. Instead of running netplwiz, run gpedit.msc

2. Navigate to Computer configuration > Windows settings > Security settings > Local policies > Security options

3. Locate “Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL” and set it to Enable

Disable secure logon from Group Policy

I think Microsoft should consider this as a bug itself and offer a patch to fix it. We should not sacrifice security for beautiful features, should we?
