Direct Download Remote Desktop For Windows 2000

While Windows XP and above is pre-installed with Remote Desktop connection software for RDP protocol, it’s not available in older Windows, including Windows 2000 Professional.

However, it’s not surprise that many small businesses and enterprises running Windows Server 2003 as server are still using some really old Windows OS, e.g. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000.

Windows Vista Ultimate Remote Desktop version 6 support Network Level Authentication feature.
Latest RDP client version bundles with Windows Vista Ultimate edition.

(One of the reasons of not upgrading to latest Windows is due to incompatibility between legacy applications and new Windows OS, particularly Windows Vista!)

Though, you may separately download Remote Desktop client for these older Windows to remotely access Windows 2003, Windows XP or Windows Vista with Remote Desktop service enabled!
Personally, I prefers Remote Desktop than VNC for remote access to Windows XP and above. The reasons? Well, the RDP is more responsive, easy to interact, copy file over RDP session, secure, etc.

This latest release of RDP client (MSRDPCLI.EXE, 3.4MB, version 5.1.2600.2180) is the same version of Remote Desktop client bundles with XP SP2. Although, it’s certainly compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000!
