Free Angry Bird Game For Computer Using Google Chrome

If you don’t have a smart phone that can install and play Angry Bird, now you can play this popular game developed by Rovio Mobile on PC or laptop computer using Google Chrome web browser.

Both Google Chrome and Angry Bird for PC are free:

Personally, I find it easier to play on big LCD screen using mouse to control the birds in action. To zoom in/out the battle scene, just scroll your mouse wheel or using the up/down arrow keys. All except the red color bird have special power that can be activated by clicking left mouse button once when it’s flying.

Backup Google Pacman From Google Chrome Extension Folder

I have this free Google Chrome extension that allow me to play Google Pacman offline on Google Chrome (the web browser I use every days for most of the web browsing).

However, it is not available now as I search for “Pacman” on Chrome web store. Not sure this is just a temporarily glitch or Google decided to remove the free game permanently.

How to backup Google Pacman extension

If you already have this Google Chrome extension installed and like to keep this free game in own store, please navigate to Google Chrome extension folder:

Chrome\Default\Extensions\nfmbgibelbmdjdicnfnohmakcodobbec

Make a backup of “GooglePacman” folder in that path before uninstall the extension or format Windows. For users on non-Windows platform, you may search that particular folder to locate it.

Though this backup won’t allow you to reinstall the extension, you can open “Play GooglePacman.html” and enjoy the free game offline as you wish. Of course, this way allows you to open Google Pacman on any web browsers that support JavaScript.

Personally, I prefer Google Pacman than the Adobe Air version of Pacman (see previous post), as the former doesn’t require additional software to be installed except web browser. Best of all, I can play Google Pacman offline in office (during rest time) without leaving a record in the daily Internet usage tracking report :)

For those who have Adobe Air runtime installed and also like to play Pacman game, you might be interested to have this free Pacman game in collection.

It doesn’t require Internet connection, i.e. you can play Pacman offline in office (during lunch hour) without worry of Internet usage tracking :)

How To Embed SWF In Microsoft Office 2007 Document

I wrote two posts of this topic using Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft Excel 2007 as the example, complemented with screenshots and screencasts posted to WalkerNews Channel @ YouTube.

However, I find mess in both posts because of mistake made in the steps. In addition, Microsoft Word 2007 and 2003 disable the embedded Shockwave flash game if using Word 2007 to save it in *.doc format and the option to run ActiveX / Macros is disabled with / without notification.

On the other hand, Microsoft Excel 2007 and 2003 is able to initialize and play the embedded SWF game regardless the worksheet is saved in *.xlsx or *.xls format, even if the “disable all macros with notification” in Trust Center is enabled.

I guess that’s why I received most of the SWF games embedded in Microsoft Excel and lesser in Microsoft Word. Thus, the Microsoft Excel 2007 SP2 is used as a reference of this “revised” guide.

Embed SWF game in Microsoft Excel 2007 SP2

1) Turn on or show the Developer tab in Ribbon bar, if it’s not already there.

2) Go to Developer tab, click the Insert button in Controls group, followed by More Controls icon.

3) In the More Controls dialog box, select Shockwave Flash Object and click OK button.

4) As soon as after clicking OK, use the mouse pointer to draw a box on the worksheet (big or small, rectangle or square, is up to you). Right click on the envelope-alike box and select Properties from the Context menu.

5) In the Properties dialog box, configure those key properties of Shockwave Flash Object (as those highlighted in screenshot):

EmbedMovie set to True; otherwise, the SWF file is not truly embedded in the Excel worksheet.
Movie – specify the absolute / full path of the SWF file in question. Microsoft Excel refers to this path to embed the SWF file when the worksheet is saved.
FlashVars is optional, e.g. if you want the embedded SWF game starts automatically upon opening the worksheet, specify autostart=yes here.

6) Close the Properties dialog box, by clicking the X button or press ALT+F4 when the dialog box is in focus.

7) Save the worksheet into *.xls or *.xlsx format (*.xls is compatible with Excel 97-2003 while *.xlsx is only compatible with Excel 2007 or above).

8) Open the saved worksheet and confirm the embedded Shockwave flash works correctly.

Now what? The saved worksheet is ready for distribution, in which the recipients are able to play the embedded Shockwave game (except those who don’t use Microsoft Excel).

How To Embed SWF or FLV File In Microsoft Excel 2007?

Update: Apparently, I was drunk while posting this guide, which is only applicable to SWF file, not the FLV file type :-(

After publishing note on how to insert or embed Shockwave flash (SWF file) in Microsoft Word 2007, I uploaded two “silent” screencasts (created by friend) to WalkerNews Channel.

These two “silent” screencasts (alive with music taken from AudioSwap), are based on Microsoft Word and Excel 2007 (as the Shockwave flash container).
Does Microsoft Excel 2007 require a different way to embed SWF or FLV file? Actually, there is no difference, if you already know how to do it with Microsoft Word 2007.

Anyway, it cost me nothing to make another text + video tutorial for reference, except of spending little bit of time and effort. After all, I am not that good of expressing idea and knowledge in words.

A “live” screencast, however, should complement my weakness. One video speaks thousands of word and it is easier to understand than static images. Best of all, YouTube provides me a zero-cost video hosting with responsive streaming (at countries with reliable broadband infrastructure and allows people to access YouTube service in full).

OK, here we go – The steps to embed / insert SWF game or FLV movie file into Microsoft Excel 2007:

1) Click the Developer tab. Locate and click the Insert button in Controls group. You will see a little frame pops up, providing both Form Controls and ActiveX Controls. Click the More Controls icon of ActiveX Controls category (usually on the bottom-right corner of that frame).

2) In the More Controls dialog box, scroll down to select Shockwave Flash Object and click OK button. (I am not sure, at this moment that this object is provided by default Microsoft Office installation. If you’re able to watch YouTube video with a web browser, the Shockwave flash object should be available for Microsoft Office too).

3) Now, move the mouse to draw the Shockwave flash container, either in the shape of square or rectangle (if you know how make it round or in other shapes, please leave a comment :-).

4) Right click the “letter box” you’ve just created, select Properties option from the Context menu.

5) In Shockwave flash object properties dialog box, locate MovieData field and enter the full path of SWF or FLV file that you want to embed.

Enter the full path to the Shockwave file (SWF) in the Movie property text-box.
Set the EmbedMovie property to True (otherwise, the SWF file is never truly embedded into the Excel document, i.e. your friend who receive the Excel document is never able to see or play the Shockwave game as it’s not embedded)

6) Close the Properties dialog box. The box remains with a cross, right?

Don’t panic. Looks at the Microsoft Office Ribbon (new menu and toolbar interface introduced in Office 2007), the Design Mode in Controls group is highlighted and turned on. The SWF or FLV playback is shown after turning off the Design Mode.

To toggle Design Mode on and off, just click the button. When it’s off, the “letter box” should render Shockwave flash game or flash movie of what you’ve just done.

Play This Little Piano Flash Game

I stumbled upon this little flash game at here. A piano can play nice rhythms if you are good in music :-)

Although I neither a pianist nor I play a piano in my life so far, there is no problem for me to start playing this flash game in no time. Guess what, there are “music notes” of few popular Chinese songs written on the site I found :-)

Therefore, you should able to play this flash-based piano easily as I do. For your convenient, I just duplicate two of them here.

To test it out, use your computer mouse (not that animal called mouse) to click the flash piano once. Then, start to press computer keyboard with reference to that alphabet-based “song book” (below).

In some cases, you might have to turn off the Chinese input, if the flash piano not making any tune.

Besides using computer keyboard, you can also click on the flash piano keyboard. The layout should much like the piano toy made for children, I think.

Similar to the Touch Piano from Nokia HK, this little flash piano (about 230KB) is compatible with touchscreen-based Nokia 5800 XpressMusic too (by touching the little piano keyboard to “make” it dance :-)

Nokia HK Offers Another 7 Symbian Freeware And Games For Nokia 5800

Good news again that Nokia HK has just published another seven S60 freeware and games for the Nokia 5800! Best of all, non-HK handsets could also download and install all these multilingual freeware and games.

Although they’re labeled for Nokia 5800, I believe that these software are compatible with any smart phone powered by Symbian OS S60 5th Edition UI (i.e. Symbian touchscreen user interface).

If you ever encounter “expired certificate” error during SIS installation, just try to unplug the bundled memory card and then “format” the phone with *#7370# secret code.

Now, thank you M-Bounce and Zensis for offering these freeware and games for Nokia 5800 (the 3rd Nokia touchscreen-based smart phone):

Paint Pad

If you like, just call this as (Microsoft) Paint for Nokia 5800! Paint Pad, developed by Zensis, provides few simple drawing tools for every creative folk to paint on photos or a blank canvas.

Dodge This

This is a JAVA game developed by Zensis. As the name and screenshot imply, Dodge This is about moving the plane away from gunfire, with the help of stylus. Personally, I don’t really like this game – it’s dull and dummy, although I’ve to admit that I couldn’t dodge gunfire very well :-(

The rest of these five Symbian freeware are developed by M-Bounce in Java:

Big 2 Master (Choh Dai Di, 锄大D)

Big 2 card game is my all-time favorite, as you know. If I’m not mistaken, this is the second Big 2 card game of M-Bounce. As compare to the 1st version, this new Big 2 Master is a bit annoying to me – the cards are smaller; it’s not really easy to play if without a stylus and not exercise two hands during the game.

Sudoku

If Sudoku is still popular for you, then this mobile game is definitely a must-have Symbian freeware for your Nokia 5800. The Sudoku mobile game provides three puzzle sizes (4×4, 6×6, and 9×9) and three difficulty levels to satisfy most challengers.

For beginners, there are hints or tips available in partial or full mode, to ensure everyone could complete the maths puzzle.

Mahjong and Shanghai Mahjong

To be frank, I don’t know how to play Mahjong! Similar to Big 2, Mahjong is very popular among Chinese. There are study that said playing Mahjong could prevent old folks from suffering Parkinson disease. So, I should take some time to learn playing Mahjong for own good sake :-)

DouDiZhu

Another mobile card game that looks like the poker. According to the game instruction, DouDiZhu (斗地主) is very popular in mainland China, especially among farmers in the old days.
