How Google Adsense could help you and the others who suffer in the disaster?

It’s really affecting to read all news related to the fatal natural disasters that happened in Myanmar and SiChuan lately.

I can’t make myself available to help them physically, but I am pleased to help them in financial way, with little donation.

When I read one of the latest Inside Adsense email, I thought that was great, as Google has finally setup a mechanism to allow publishers automatically contribute portion of their earning to charity fund!

However, that’s not the case. So, I leave a comment there:

I would prefer an option in my Google Adsense account to allow me donate a percentage of my earning to reputable charity funds!

I think this is kind of corporate social responsibility program (CSR) that enterprise like Google should have.

I’m not rich as Bill Gates, but I definitely afford to donate 5% of Adsense earning to charity.

And if all other publishers follow that could be very huge eventually!

I was the 8th reader to comment. Since then, no much responses / reactions / pingbacks are seen from other publishers / readers!

Is that because most publishers not making enough and so can’t afford to contribute little percent of their earning to charity?
I doubt so!

Is that because most of the publishers dislike China / Myanmar?
When come to charity, we shouldn’t care about which country to benefit from the donation.

Have I donated?
If there is the God, he knows that.

To be frank, I will be happy to see this happen in one day - Google put an option in Adsense account where publishers could automatically allocate specified percentage of their earning to some reputable charity fund.
Do you recall I wrote about why I desperately need Competitive Ad Filter?
Recently an Adsense email that talked about “third-party ads” and one part of the content reminds me to review ads showing in WalkerNews.net:

You can use the Ad Review Center to filter specific placement-targeted ads from appearing on your site. To block contextually-targeted ads from a given advertiser, you can use the Competitive Ad Filter.

Yes, provided you’ve enabled the Placement-Targeted Ads feature and advertisers have started to target your site(s), these ads will be shown in Ad Review Center. Otherwise, there is nothing, because those contextually-targeted ads are not shown in Ad Review Center!

I suppose that no advertisers will target WalkerNews.net (poor ranking) as they ought to be serious about branding and thus will target those really popular websites.

However, to my surprise, my Ad Review Center is not empty! But, there is one “spam” advertiser target WalkerNews.net :-(. I’ve no choice but to block it immediately!

How to block junk ads that target your site with Ad Review Center

If you’ve found some junk ads target your site in Ad Review Center, just do this:

Click the drop-box to select “Block all ad groups from this advertiser” for that particular junk ads and then click the “Save Review Setting” button block these spam ads from showing in Adsense account.

As the contextual ads is too much to be possible shown in Ad Review Center, I’ve no choice but to keep an eye on ads running in Adsense account, take a lengthy process to identify and block those junk ads in Competitive Ad Filter.

REMEMBER, if your earning drop suddenly while not much changes in site traffic, then it’s time to review the ads running on your site(s). Clean up junk ads not only increase readership experience but also get better pay from good ads.

Coincidentally, a financial news pop up on the same day, about re-appointing Jerry Yang as the new CEO. Jerry Yang is Stanford University graduate and co-founder of Yahoo Inc (NASDAQ:YHOO).

What’s the connection between these two events?

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) top the winner list with 16 of its popular webware flavored by users.
On top of that, Google Web applications and services secure places in 9 out of 10 categories of the Top 100 Webware Awards 2007!

The second biggest winner goes to Yahoo Inc, with 9 of its webware nominated - My Yahoo, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Bix, Yahoo Search, Flickr, Yahoo Video, Yahoo OneSearch, and Yahoo Maps.

Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) is the third biggest winner with 7 webware in the list, including Internet Explorer, Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Search, Microsoft Office Live, Silverlight, and Microsoft Virtual Earth.

So, the combined figure of both Microsoft and Yahoo is just equivalent to Google winner counts! This has prompted share holders to recall rumours about the merger of Yahoo Inc with either one of its contenders - Google Inc or Microsoft Corp!

Yahoo Inc is gradually losing market share since the rising of Google Inc. Although, Yahoo web traffics is still number 1 in the World and its home ground in U.S! Microsoft, the late comer, is not unknown for its strong finance muscle and ambitious to tap the lucrative online ads segment.

So, on and off, there are rumours that Microsoft Corp will likely to buy up or acquire Yahoo Inc under its stable. Together, MSN and Yahoo could easily secure over 30% of web traffics in U.S alone!

Also, there are rumours that Google Inc might interested to acquire Yahoo Inc too!
The merger of Google and Yahoo, if happen, could immediately command 60% of web traffics in the World!

Now, with the return of co-founder Jerry Yang, the rumours might really never be materialized. I’m writing this after hearing an indignant experience from my friend, Sean.

He was in urgent to withdraw about 20K from his own personal saving account for payment of securities purchase that due on the same day. However, the banker told him that he couldn’t withdraw more than ten thousands from his account as the account is applied or opened in other branch of the bank. If he wanted to withdraw more than ten thousands, in his case the 20K, he had no choice to go back to the branch where he open the account!

“Isn’t it ridiculous? That’s damn ridiculous! Are they really want me to fly back to Johor to withdraw my own money in my own saving account, when I am in urgency to have my money immediately on the same day?”, Sean spoke it indignantly to us during a dinner last night.

Yes, I agree with him that what he was facing with the Malaysian banker is really really ridiculous and unreasonable! Do you?

Which bank is it? Well, I doubt I have the choices to explicitly name the bank here. If you’re Malaysian and having more than 10K of saving with them, you better ask if you can make more than 10K in any others branches of the same bank. I bet you’ll know which is the bank that my friend is facing of.

And, Sean is not the only friend of mine that had frustrated banking experience. Earlier, another friend, Jason also telling me how embarrass he was to open a joint-account with his fiancee in another Malaysia anchor bank!

“You cannot open joint-account unless you can show me the marriage certificate. We don’t encourage couple who are not married to open joint-account, as we don’t want to handle cases of dispute on joint-account when the couple break-up! Because the joint-account allow anyone of the holder to make withdrawal without the approval from other account holders, so we can’t guarantee the safety of deposit with such joint-account!”

What was the personal banker trying to tell? Is that the rules / advices of the bank or the personal banker himself? Is Jason opening account with the licensed bank or the personal banker who serving him? Is the bank to guarantee the safety of deposit or the personal banker?

What are your feeling if you and your fiancee / fiance are told with such comments?

However, that nasty personal banker was at no chances to abuse his right! Jason got angry with the personal banker but calmly fight back! He asked the personal banker showed him the black and white and called his superior out to explain the situation. And, he asked him to read on his employer (the bank) e-banking website, to show him where are the rules and regulations stated there that the joint-account holders have to be a marriage couple or family members?

Well, after reading all these real, frustrated, unreasonable banking experiences (that some of you might have faced before), do you have ideas on how to deal with or resolve those banking problems?

I hope you’ll find it useful here! This guide may helps you, if you’re not satisfy with any licensed banking institution in Malaysia!

Ask him to show you the black and white or the rules and regulations for the service in question.

Ask his/her superior come to you for explanation and seek for apology!

If you’re not getting satisfactory results, now ask them to write down their full name and employee number. If you’ve a handphone with voice recorder is better still! Turn on the voice recorder and ask them to speak it loudly their name and employee number, together the name of the bank!

I bet you’ll get some good result now to solve the problem immediately at the counter. If you don’t, you have no choice to send an email of complaint to the bank customer service, detail the incident with supporting facts that you’ve on hand, and explicitly telling them to reply within 1 week!

What if the bank customer service has no reply after one week. Forward the email to Bank Negara or Financial Mediation Bureau, and pray that FMB will really taking actions to safeguard banking customers’ interest! You may find this Malaysia Banking Info useful, that outline the guide and procedure to file banking-related complaints to Financial Mediation Bureau (FMB)!
