How To Configure Google Chrome New Tab To Hide Most Visited Sites?

The latest Google Chrome update changes the New Tab page to show your most visited websites in thumbnail. That could be really embarrassing if you’ve been spending hours on non-work related websites.

So, how can I force Google Chrome to hide my most visited websites in New Tab page?

There is a “hidden” configuration for advanced users to restore Google Chrome New Tab page to show Chrome apps, like this:

Tested this trick on Google Chrome version 31.0.1650.48 (Official Build 233213) beta-m.

Browse to chrome://flags to access the Google Chrome’s advanced settings, search for “Enable Instant Extended API” and set it to “Disabled”, then hit the “Relaunch Now” button that appears at bottom of page:

That’s it – Google Chrome should be showing apps icon instead of most visited sites’ thumbnail.
