How To Create Windows 8 Pinned Site Tile Visual For A Website?

You probably know that the IE10 app in Windows 8 can actually pin a website to the Start Screen.

But, do you know how to get Windows 8 use the website favicon (favorite icon) as the visual of pinned site tile?

Create a Windows 8 pinned site tile.

Well, it won’t display the favicon in pinned site tile. If you want Windows 8 to show a personalized pinned site tile instead of default IE logo, the website must contains an instruction (made up by two meta tags) that refers IE10 to a 144×144 pixel PNG image file:
<meta name="msapplication-TileImage" content="url_of_tile.png" />
<meta name="msapplication-TileColor" content="#fff" />

The meta tags should be placed in between the <head></head> tag.

Thus, if IE10 app pins a website that contains these two elements (the requirement), Windows 8 should use that particular PNG file as pinned site tile visual.
