Besides using web browser to access Google email service, you may also use Microsoft Outlook 2010 to access Gmail account if IMAP option is enabled.
Firstly, log in to Gmail using web browser, click “Settings” link at top-right corner, go to “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab and enable IMAP access – this feature allows any IMAP-compatible email clients to access Gmail.

Next steps are to configure Outlook 2010 to access Gmail:
1) Open Microsoft Outlook 2010 – if there is no email account in Outlook 2010, it will prompt you to configure one (click Yes to proceed). Otherwise, click File tab, select Info on left pane and click Add Account button:

2) In Choose Service screen, select “Email account” and click Next.
3) In Auto Account Setup screen, proceed with “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” option.
4) Yet another Choose Service screen, now opt for “Internet email” and click Next.

smtp.gmail.com - User name – Gmail account login ID
- Password – Gmail account login password
- Deselect both “Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)” and “Test account settings by clicking the Next button” check boxes
- Click “More settings” button
6) In the Internet Email Settings dialog box:
- Go to “Outgoing Server” tab, tick “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” check box and select “use same settings as my incoming mail server” option.
- Go to “Advanced” tab:
- set Incoming server (IMAP) port number to
993and encrypted connection type toSSL. - Set encrypted connection type to
TLSTHEN ONLY change the outgoing server (SMTP) port number to587.

7) Click Next and then Finish button to complete the setup :)
