How To Create Transparent Background Image In Photoshop?

Just another ‘silent’ video about how to create or make an image with transparent background using Photoshop CS3. Again, the concept should be applicable with minor changes in the latest Adobe Photoshop CS5.

In some cases, transparent background image is kinda attractive for making a Gravatar / avatar to represent you and you in forum or blog.
Regular visitors should have noticed that WalkerNews.net is lately using a new default Gravatar logo with transparent background for commenter who don’t have a Gravatar – many of them, :-(.

1) Drag or open the image in Photoshop.

2) Uses Magnetic Lasso Tool to select your expected object in the opened image and press CTRL+C to copy the selection.

3) Press CTRL+N to open new image template dialog box and set its “background contents” to transparent.

4) After click OK button, you should see a new image window in Photoshop. When this new image window in focus (i.e. click its window title bar to make it an active window), press CTRL+V to paste the object selected by Magnetic Lasso Tool (as done in step-2).

5) Press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S or click File menu followed by “Save for web & device” option. In the open dialog box, change the image format to GIF and make sure “transparency” option is checked.

If you can’t follow the words, I hope the ‘silent’ video (though with background music of YouTube AudioSwap) could help you move forward. Good luck.
