Download Ovi Store Freeware With Firefox or Google Chrome In Windows Vista

Believe it or not, I didn’t power on Wifi router at home, as I am afraid of too much electromagnetic fields (EMFs) pollution and also believe that WPA2 protocol can be cracked or exploited easily by neighbors with some kind of advanced but simple to use hardware / software.

To get online, the good old CAT-5 cable messes the corridor as it run up from dining room all the way to study room at 2nd floor.

However, the Nokia 5800 has no luck as it simply cannot online without wireless LAN, except that if via different broadband provider over 3G / 3.5G (HSPDA) mobile network.

That’s why I can’t download freeware from Nokia Ovi Store using existing paid broadband service at home, as Nokia Ovi Store disallow non-Symbian web browsers to access :-(

Having said that, you CAN’T even browse Nokia Ovi Store with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, etc, be it from Windows Vista, Ubuntu or Mac OS X.

What if tweak your favorite web browser to appear as Symbian-based web browser, to trick Nokia Ovi Store to believe that it is legitimate?

Yes, by changing Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome user agent string, I can easily browse and download all available freeware, game, ringtone, wallpaper, theme, etc, from Nokia Ovi Store with my IBM-compatible Desktop powered by Intel Core 2 Duo and the “aging” Windows Vista SP2 :-)

As the video shows, to change Mozilla Firefox user agent string is simple as this:

1) Type about:config at the Address bar.

2) Ignore the funny warning message, right click anywhere on the about:config page, select “New” from the context menu followed by “String”, and enter this line into the “New string value” dialog box:
general.useragent.override

3) Now, enter the genuine Symbian web browser user agent string exactly (taken from Nokia 5800 running firmware version 31.0.008):
Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; U; Series60/5.0 Nokia5800d-1/31.0.008; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413

I hope this trick works “forever” otherwise I might have to turn on WIFI, just for the sexy Nokia 5800 to access Nokia Ovi Store.
