Install KB938979 To Improve Vista Performance

Microsoft has just came up with Performance Update KB938979 on 7th of August to address a series of Windows Vista performance issues that happen on certain hardware.

I found that my Windows Update service hasn’t automatically install the Performance Update KB938979. If it isn’t reported by WER service (Problem Reports And Solutions program), I think I could have simply ignored it.

If you found these similar problems on any Windows Vista editions (including the 64-bit version), the Performance Update KB938979 might be the solution:
  • Experience a long delay when trying to exit the slideshow screen saver.

  • Memory leak occurs when using the Windows Energy screen saver.

  • If the Vista User Account Control (UAC) is disabled, the network printer hosted by Windows XP or Windows 2003 couldn’t be installed successfully on Windows Vista computer.

  • The AVI file corrupted when you writing data to the AVI file by using AVIStreamWrite function.

  • When copying or moving a large file, Windows Vista takes a long time to calculate “estimated time remaining”.

  • When you resume the computer from hibernation, Windows Vista takes a long time to display Windows Logon dialog box and/or loss the default gateway IP address.

  • The offline file corrupted when Windows Vista synchronize the offline file to a server.

  • Data loss issue when editing RAW format images taken by Canon EOS 1D and Canon EOS 1DS digital SLR camera.
