Will Google Or Microsoft Buy Up Yahoo

The first user-nominated winners of the Top 100 Webware Awards is finally confirmed and published. Most of these webware are web 2.0 compliance!The first batch of Top 100 Webware 2007 winners have finally confirmed and published in the host official site.

Coincidentally, a financial news pop up on the same day, about re-appointing Jerry Yang as the new CEO. Jerry Yang is Stanford University graduate and co-founder of Yahoo Inc (NASDAQ:YHOO).

What’s the connection between these two events?

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) top the winner list with 16 of its popular webware flavored by users.
Google web applications and services that winning the heart of cyber-community includes Mozilla Firefox, Google Reader, Gmail, LinkedIn, Google Search, YouTube, Gmail Mobile, Google Maps Mobile, 1-800-GOOG-411, Google Docs and Spreadsheets, Google Calendar, Google Adsense / Adwords, New Blogger, Google Analytics, and Google Maps. On top of that, Google Web applications and services secure places in 9 out of 10 categories of the Top 100 Webware Awards 2007!

The second biggest winner goes to Yahoo Inc, with 9 of its webware nominated – My Yahoo, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Bix, Yahoo Search, Flickr, Yahoo Video, Yahoo OneSearch, and Yahoo Maps.

Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) is the third biggest winner with 7 webware in the list, including Internet Explorer, Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Search, Microsoft Office Live, Silverlight, and Microsoft Virtual Earth.

So, the combined figure of both Microsoft and Yahoo is just equivalent to Google winner counts! This has prompted share holders to recall rumours about the merger of Yahoo Inc with either one of its contenders – Google Inc or Microsoft Corp!

Yahoo Inc is gradually losing market share since the rising of Google Inc. Although, Yahoo web traffics is still number 1 in the World and its home ground in U.S! Microsoft, the late comer, is not unknown for its strong finance muscle and ambitious to tap the lucrative online ads segment.

So, on and off, there are rumours that Microsoft Corp will likely to buy up or acquire Yahoo Inc under its stable. Together, MSN and Yahoo could easily secure over 30% of web traffics in U.S alone!

Also, there are rumours that Google Inc might interested to acquire Yahoo Inc too!
Equity analysts who follow Internet-related stocks commented that Google Inc with huge sum of excessive working capital could greatly enhance its core business and shareholding value! The merger of Google and Yahoo, if happen, could immediately command 60% of web traffics in the World!

Now, with the return of co-founder Jerry Yang, the rumours might really never be materialized. Indeed, the latest news (rumours) is about a marrying deal between Yahoo Inc with MySpace.com, which is also one of top ten in Alexa web traffics ranking! News Corp (NYSE:NWS), who brought up MySpace in 2005 for $580 million, will be compensated with 25% stakes in the combined company.
