Where Is Firefox Internet Files Cache Folder – Part II
Last Wednesday, I wrote about How to retrieve flash video and game from Firefox cache folder using “about:cache” method.
However, my friends who read it said that the tricks doesn’t work!
Why? After some quick troubleshooting, I found the answers of why. Along the way, I found another easier way to retrieve temporarily Internet files from Firefox cache folder too!
Another easier way to retrieve pictures from Firefox disk cache folder

This method is of course easier than my earlier tricks. However, it might not work if you want to retrieve embedded type of flash video or shockwave-flash game.

As you seen in this snapshot, Raiden-X flash game is said “not cached” in Cache Source: field of Page Info window!
But, my friend said that the Firefox about:cache tricks doesn’t works too!
These are the reasons why he failed to do so:
Where is Firefox Disk Cache Device or Cache Folder
As long as Firefox 2.0.0.3 is concern, you may confirm the Firefox cache folder location on any OS platforms using the “Cache Directory:” path in “about:cache” page!
General Firefox cache folder path in Windows Vista:
cd %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\
cd Profiles\alpha-numeric.default\Cache
General Firefox cache folder path in Windows XP / Windows 2000:
cd C:\Documents and Settings\User_Logon_Name\
cd Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\
cd Profiles\alpha-numeric.default\Cache
General Firefox cache folder path in Redhat Enterprise Linux 4:
cd $HOME/.mozilla/
cd firefox/alpha-numeric.default/Cache

Another easier way to retrieve pictures from Firefox disk cache folder
- After the page loaded completely, click the Tools menu and select Page Info option.
- Click the Media tab of Page Info window, as seen in the diagram above. Please take note that the Page Info window can be maximized for your convenient of reading!
- Click on the very first URL entry in the Address text box and scroll down one by one using the arrow key on keyboard. Along the way, you will see the cached picture / files in the Media Preview pane!
- Once you found the target cached file / picture, just click the Save As button to save it on elsewhere!
- If the temporarily Internet file size is big, such as the 2.75 MB Raiden-X flash game downloaded from Rapidshare.com, there will be multiple records of the said file in Disk Cache Device page.

As shown here, you need to select the latest copy of Raiden-X flash game in the disk cache, which has completely downloaded and cached in the local disk cache device! In other words, always look for the biggest “Data Size” and latest “Last Modified” date.
- By default installation, Firefox web browser automatically allocate 50MB for its Disk Cache Device (the Firefox cache folder). So, make sure you have a big enough Disk Cache Device before Firefox able to save a copy of temporarily Internet files to the cache folder!
To set and change Firefox Disk Cache Device (cache folder) file size,
- Click the Tools menu and select Options to bring up the Firefox Options setting dialog box.
- Click the Advanced tab and change the Firefox cache device file size in the “Cache” section.
- Follow the path in the “File On Disk” field to the cached copy of temporarily Internet file (flash video, shockwave game, pictures, download program, etc), copy it to elsewhere and rename it to a meaningful file-name with valid file type extension (.flv for flash video, .swf for shockwave-flash game, .mp3 for mp3 music file, .mov for QuickTime movie file, etc).

Thank You !
You can copy the file before closing the browser, by using the HoboCopy program.
